Pamela Anderson Announces She Has Hepatitis C

In a statement released March 20, 2002 Pamela Anderson announced that she is undergoing outpatient treatment for hepatitis C and UCLA Medical Center. She claims to have contracted the disease through sharing a tattoo needle with her ex-husband Tommy Lee. Tommy denied the accusation and was later tested negative for the disease.
Hepatitis C, a liver disease caused by a viral infection, affects nearly 2 percent of Americans. The disease can lead to serious, permanent liver damage and in many cases, death, however; more than a third of cases can be successfully treated.
