The First Five Baseball Hall Of Famers
The first five players inducted into the National Baseball Hall Of Fame were Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson, Babe Ruth and Honus Wagner. As a part of the planning for a 100th anniversary for the game of baseball the National Baseball Hall of Fame was proposed in Cooperstown, the birthplace of baseball. The Baseball Writers' Association of America helped to select players for consideration and the first election was held in January 1936 when the five players were selected.
