1992 Summer Olympics: Synchronized Swimming Gold
Canadian Sylvie Frechette is awarded the gold medal in synchronized swimming after originally winning the silver at the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics. A Brazilian judge mistakenly typed a score of 8.7 into the computer rather than the intended 9.7 and was not allowed to correct the error. After the Canadian swimming federation protested the International Olympic Committee decided to award the gold to Frechette. American Kristen Babb-Sprague who was originally awarded the medal was allowed to keep her gold.
This marked the first time in modern Olympic history that such a decision was made.
