First Rookie Pitcher To Win Game 7 In 93 Years

John Lackey, of the Anaheim Angels, became the first rookie pitcher to win the seventh game of the World Series in 93 years, when he started against the San Francisco Giants on October 27, 2002. He pitched well, allowing only one run, until he was relieved after the fifth inning. The last pitcher to win game 7 was Babe Adams who shut out Detroit for Pittsburgh in 1909.
