Closest Formula 1 Finish In History
On September 29, 2002 at the end of the United States Grand Prix a surprise finish saw the closest margin of victory in Formula 1 history.
Michael Schumacher, who had dominated the race from the pole, slowed around the last few turns to allow his Ferrari team mate Rubens Barrichello to catch up. They cruised across the finish line side by side, with Barrichello taking the win by 0.011 of a second.
It was a controversial win in a season where Barrichello was forced to pull over and let Schumacher with the Austrian GP to allow Schumacher maximum points for the championship.
