Tragically on July 16, 1999 John F. Kennedy Jr. died in a plane crash near Martha's Vineyard, Mass. Kennedy was piloting a single-engine Cessna when the plan crashed into the ocean killing himself, his wife Carolyn, and her sister, Lauren Bessette. The nation and the world mourned the loss.
