Four months after leaving Rome (February 23) Alvaro de Marichalar, a Spanish count arrived in Miami on June 22, 2002 becoming the first man to cross the Atlantic on a personal watercraft. Escorted by a support ship with six crew, Count Marichalar rode his 9 foot jet-ski for twelve hours per day, mostly standing to prevent back injury.
