Victory In Europe After Years Of Conflict

After more than five years of conflict World War II ended in Europe on May 7, 1945 in a schoolhouse at Reims, France when German representatives officially surrendered at 2:41 am. Following the allied landings on French beaches on D-Day the allies swept through France and Germany, defeating the Germans in less than a year. In a simultaneous broadcast across the United States and Great Britain the unconditional surrender of Germany was announced at 9 am on May 8th. In celebration of victory May 8th was declared V-E day.
