First Supersonic Land Speed RecordTechnologyOn October 15th, 1997 a British team lead by Richard Knoble broke both the land speed record and the sound barrier when, British fighter pilot, Andy Green set a two way average speed of 762.721 MPH. The twin jet powered car, Thrust SSC, set the record in the Black Rock desert of Nevada just one day after the 50th anniversary of Gen. Chuck Yeager's flight through the sound barrier on October 14th, 1947 and beat Richard Knoble's previous record of 633.47 MPH set on October 4, 1983 in the Thrust 2.
