Yasser Arafat Dies

After slipping into a coma on November 3, Yasser Arafat died on November 11, 2004 at 3:30 pm in a Paris hospital at the age of 75.

Arafat was the chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) since 1969.

In 1994 Arafat received the Nobel Peace Prize, along with Rabin and Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres for achieving the Oslo Agreement; which established a framework for peace and included provisions for a permanent treaty that would resolve the status of Gaza and the West Bank.

Arafat is survived by his wife Soha and 10 year-old daughter Zahwa.
