Martha Stewart Reports To Prison
Following a huge media build-up, lifestyle and home-making icon Martha Stewart reported to the minimum-security prison in Alderson, West Virginia on October 8th, 2004.
Stewart (63) was found guilty of four counts of lying to investigators about her well-timed sale of ImClone Systems Inc. stock at the end of 2001 in March 2004 and was sentenced in July to five months in prison and five months of home detention. Though she is still appealing the conviction, she opted to enter prison early to put her "nightmare" behind her.
The prison, known as "Camp Cupcake," was opened in 1927 as the first federal prison for women. It once housed jazz singer Billie Holiday, as well as Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme and Sara Jane Moore (both of whom tried to assassinate President Gerald Ford).
