Dixie Chicks' Anti-War Statement Draws Criticism

Celebrities

On March 10, 2003 during a concert in London, England the Dixie Chicks singer Natalie Maines criticised George W. Bush for his policies regarding Iraq. On stage she announced to the crowd: "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas." The statement brought heavy condemnation from across the United States and radio stations began boycotting the Dixie Chicks, even though she publicly apologized for her statement.

She later said that they always supported U.S. troops even though they questioned the war.
