Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic Is Assassinated
Outside of the government building in Belgrade, Serbia Zoran Djindijic was shot twice in the chest at around 12:45 pm on March 12, 2003. Djindijic died later in hospital. Acting president, Natasa Micic declared a state of emergency following the shooting.
Djindijic was an active proponent of democracy and reform in the war torn former nation of Yugoslavia. He had played an active roll in overthrowing Slobodan Milosevic, the former leader responsible of a huge number of crimes, including ethnic cleansing.
