On January 17th, 1995 Kobe Japan was rocked by deadly earthquake. The quake lasted only 20 seconds and measured 6.9 in magnitude, but it killed 5,500 people. With damages of $100 billion dollars (9,860 billion yen) the Kobe earthquake is the most costly natural disaster in history.
