Actress Winona Ryder Found Guilty of Theft and Vandalism

On November 7, 2002 the Oscar nominated actress Winona Ryder was found guilt of theft and vandalism. She was arrested for stealing $5,570 worth of merchandise from the Beverly Hills Saks Fifth Avenue store on December 12, 2001. She was found not guilty of burglary. She offered a number of conflicting stories to store security and police for the theft, but never testified at her trial. The most probably reason for the crime suggested by the prosecution was "just for the sheer thrill of seeing if she could get away with it." At her sentencing she received three years probation, 480 hours community service, $3,700 in fines and $6,355 in restitution.
