Japan Launches A Surprise Attack On Pearl Harbour
December 7th, 1941 in an effort to neutralize the United States in the Pacific, Japan launched a surprise attack on the U.S. fleet anchored at Pearl Harbour. At 5:50 am 183 aircraft were launched from Japanese carriers and two hours later bombs fell from the first wave over Pearl Harbour. Within an hour the second wave sweeps over the island. All eight of the U.S. battle ships are sunk or severely damaged. Eleven other ships are damaged including one sunken destroyer. 169 aircraft are lost. 2,403 people are killed and 1,178 are injured. The Japanese loose only 29 aircraft, one submarine, five minisubs and 185 are killed.
