Singer Ricky Nelson Dies At 45

On December 31, 1985 the popular singer from the sixties, Ricky Nelson died along with his fiancée in a tragic plane crash near Dallas, Texas. Though drugs were rumoured to have been involved, those rumours were later proven false when a fire on the plane was identified as the cause.

Ricky started with his family on a radio comedy series that became the popular Ozzie & Harriet TV program in the early fifties. In the late fifties and early sixties Ricky had a successful music career that would see him second only to Elvis in the U.S. album sales.
