ABBA Wins The 1974 Eurovision Song Contest

Celebrities

The Swedish group ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest on April 6, 1974 with the song entitled Waterloo. The win helped launch the group into superstardom. The group, Agnetha Faltskog, Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, used their first initials to form the band name.

The group experienced world wide success, but tensions between the members lead to a break-up in 1982. To date, more than 350 million records have been sold world wide.
